Maple Hill Awarded Funding for Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities Project: Growing the Supply and Market for Climate-Smart Grass-Fed Organic Dairy

This project will expand climate-smart markets for dairy producers and enable a network of partners and producers to implement climate-smart practices by incentivizing implementation and providing training support. This will lead to greater environmental practices and enhanced viability for farms that implement them. The project plans to provide participants incentives for avoided conversion, pasture improvements, attending educational events, and a number of other regenerative farming practices. Marketing plans include updated branding materials like packaging, advertising, social media and a website.

USDA is committed to supporting a diverse range of farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners through Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities. This effort will expand markets for America’s climate-smart commodities, leverage the greenhouse gas benefits of climate-smart commodity production, and provide direct, meaningful benefits to production agriculture, including for small and underserved producers. 

USDA is investing more than $3.1 billion for 141 projects through this effort and all of the projects that will be funded require meaningful involvement of small and underserved producers.

In order for a producer to be considered for our program you need to be (or be willing to transition to) an Organic Plus Trust (OPT) certified grass-fed organic dairy producer. Our current target geography is farms in reasonable proximity to our existing Maple Hill farms in Upstate New York.  If we had enough interest from farms in states geographically close to New York we would consider expanding our horizon.
